Telecentre Europe AISBL is a European non-for-profit association with a central office in Brussels, Belgium. We represent publicly funded telecentres / telecentre networks, ICT learning centres, adult education centres and libraries across Europe where children and adults can access the Internet, learn the latest digital skills and keep up to date with technology and community developments. We coordinate a number of projects, programmes and campaigns that empower people through ICT by finding new paths to employment, community life, relevant information and staying in touch with friends and family. All our members and partners believe that Information and Communication technology has an enormous potential to combat social exclusion and poverty.


We are looking for an Event Manager to organise Telecentre Europe Annual Conference 2016 (TEAC16) in Ghent (Belgium) on 6-8 October 2016. Since 2007 we organise every year an international conference targeting our wider audience of stakeholders (http://teannualconference.info). The objectives of our annual conferences have always been to share knowledge, engage members, evaluate the challenges ahead for telecentres and promote our messages to policy makers, businesses and interested stakeholders. TEAC16 will gather a majority of members of Telecentre Europe and other non-governmental organisations active in the field of digital inclusion and empowerment. It will also attract policy makers and company representatives who are willing to learn from our experiences and share their views. We are expecting 150 participants from well over 20 countries.

The Event Manager will:

  • Lead designing the concept of the conference, including the development of the agenda
  • Liaise with local partner in Ghent on logistical issues
  • Keep contact with the conference venue and venues of side events
  • Develop a detailed conference plan and coordinate its implementation
  • Support the development and implementation of a fundraising plan
  • Invite and support speakers and stakeholders
  • Identify and liaise with a conference moderator
  • Coordinate the invitation and registration process of participants
  • Deal with logistical issues and individual requests
  • Help preparing conference materials
  • Ensure photography and video recording
  • Lead promotion efforts of the event
  • Assist the preparation of agreements
  • Attend and be the host of the event
  • Propose and implement event evaluation (getting feedback from participants)
  • Write a conference report


  • University degree in PR, communications, or similar


  • Extensive experience with the organisation of international conferences or other large-scale events (please, provide references to at least 3 organised events)
  • Knowledge of digital skills, digital inclusion and empowerment area
  • Experience in working with telecentres or international non-profit organisations would be an asset

  • Flexibility with respect to understanding clients’ needs
  • Self-reliance and autonomy, as well as ability to work in team in a task-oriented environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Sociable and easy to approach


  • Excellent oral and written command of English
  • Knowledge of Dutch and other EU languages would be an asset


  • Fixed term consultancy contract until 31 October 2016
  • Start date: 1 May 2016 or as soon as possible
  • Consultancy fee: 6,000 EUR + VAT
  • Place of work: preferably in Belgium, but could be elsewhere
